Profile of the Week 8/20-Barbra Streissand

For the first of my weekly profiles I thought, that what better way to start these weekly profiles than with an iconic person in the theatre. Barbra Streisand is an icon when it comes to the theatre de her phenomial performance as Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl."
Barbra was born into a jewish family and was often teased about her nose. Her stepfather even told her that she was too ugly for ice crean when she was a little girl. As she grew older Barbra was told that if she wanted to make it in hollywood she had to have "the look" which required her to get a nose job. Thankfully, she refused to go under the knife.
Barbra's big break came when she was cast as Fanny Brice in the musical "Funny Girl" whcih is based off Fanny's love affair with Nicky Arnstein. She was nominated for the Tony but lost to Carol Channing for "Hello,Dolly"(Barbra went on to play Carol Channing's role in the movie version of the musical)  She went on to play the role of Fanny in the movie adaptation winning her an Oscar. She went on to do several other films. She returned to movies in 2004 playing Ben Stiller's mother in "Meet the Fockers" the sequel to "Meet the Parents." Brabra has recorded over 30 studio albums and has won numerous music awards including several Grammy's.
Barbra's phenominal singing and wonderful actting skills  has made her an icon in the theatre who continues to wow us.

Glee reveals season 2 poster

The first promo poster for the second season of Glee was released today, showing the glee clubbers as well as Mr.Shue and Ms.Sylvester throwing slushies at the camera. The add shows Dianna Agron who plays Quinn in a Cheerios uniform making me wonder if Quinn is now back on the Cheerios this season?

Adventures at the Stagedoor

Whenever I go to NYC I always go to the stagedoor(s) for every show that I saw during the trip as well as few others. Stagedoor experiences are fun and exciting, you get to meet the cast, talk to them and maybe get a picture or two(and you leave with your playbill signed). The actors are always so nice and truly grateful for the work. The night before their last performance in Spring Awakening, Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele brought candy as well as posed for pictures and signed autographs for the student rushers who were camping outside of the O'Neil thatre to get tickest to their last show! There is always this energy amongst the theatre goers at the stage door. Eveyone is excited and there are ALWAYS screaming fans and something unusual always happens. One time during her run in Spring Awakening Lea Michele was proposed too at the stagedoor(it was posted on YouTube)! When I went to the stagedoor after catching Promises, Promises, fans waited eagerly by the stagedoor as well. A crowd of people had gathered on the other side of the street looking at us. One of them screamed "Who are you waiting for?" At that moment a passerby whi had heard the question yelled "Justin Bieber!" A few minutes later, another person on the other side of the street yelled out "Lindsay Lohan just got out of jail!" A woman yelled back "I hope not!"  Everyone was laughing! It's moments like those that make the stagedoor experience memorable and exciting while meeting your favorite broadway stars!

What are your funny stories from the stagedoor? Link to Lea Michele's Spring Awakening proposal below. Longer blog next time!
