So it’s my favorite time of
year again-broadway awards season!! It’s always exciting here in the big apple
for us theatre nerds as a buzz and electricity that fills the theatre district.
In April new shows are opening left and right giving me so many new productions
to experience and in May through mid June the shows get recognized and honored
all leading up to the Tony’s-my favorite awards show!
Besides the incredible
performances what I love most about the Tony’s(or any awards show for that
matter) is the acceptance speeches from the heartfelt/sobbing to the downright
comedic there are just so many good ones that I have compiled my list of my Top 10 Tony Acceptance Speeches!
10. Katie Finneran-Promises,Promises 2010
What a truly inspiring speech
with her tribute to her now husband and how she reached out to kids by telling
them to follow their dreams.
9. Nathan Lane-The Producers
2001
Always a class act, bringing
co-star Matthew Broderick out with him to accept the award. Incredibly grateful
and poised he dedicates his well-earned honor to his late mother.
8. Lea Salonga-Miss Saigon 1991
Amazing reaction, grateful,
touching and classy for the amazing Ms. Salonga!
7. Kristin Chenoweth-You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown 1999
Not only was she incredibly
shocked but just knowing the she only had about 30 seconds to change from her
costume after her performance to her dress makes it that much more enjoyable!
6. Audra McDonald-Porgy and Bess 2012
With a beautiful and touching
tribute to her daughter Zoe, I had a tear or two streaming down my face by the
time she was done. Incredible actress, work and speech simply, Audra McDonald
is INCREDIBLE!!
Part 2 Coming Soon!!!
