Glee Review:Duets
So last weeks episode of Glee revolved around duets! Puck has been sent to juvie(don't worry, he'll be back!) and New Directions welcomes new member football player Sam. Mr. Shue wants the team to spilt up into pairs and perform a duet, it's a competition with the prize being dinner for two at Breadstix. Finn and Rachel, Mercedes and Santana, Mike and Tina, Sam and Quinn, Artie and Brittany and Kurt by himself are the teams. After rehearsing "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" Finn and Rachel decide to throw the competiton by performing "With You I'm Born Again" in an innapropriate way so that Sam can win and feel welcome. Kurt ends up by himself after Finn tells him that his constant advances on Sam are unwanted and Brittany takes advantage of Artie to make Santana jelaous. Mercedes and Santana and Mike and Tina both sang great rendidions of "Rive Deep- Mountain High" and "Sing!"(this was Harry Shum's first vocal performance on the show) Sam and Quinn won and over dinner at Breadstix, she puts the certificates away saying "because a gentleman always pays on the first date."(Puck has some competition) The episode ends with Rachel and Kurt singing "Happy Days Are Here Again" which I have to say was my favorite song of the episode considereing that it was performed by two of theatres greats!
This was probably my favorite episode of the season so far. I loved the idea of the Defying Gravity-like competition and we really got to see some character development, including the Brittany/Santana relationship as well as some first-time interaction between a few characters! Although I really missed Sue in this episode, Brittany made up for it and it was funny to see Finn and Rachel actually work on throwing a competition(even though it helps her in the long run) Next week: ROCKY HORROR!!! Whose excited, I am! Till next time fellow gleeks!
